Take not your Spirit away from me

Most Christians do not believe God would ever take His Spirit away from them even if it concerns continuous disobedience. Not allowing themselves to be empowered by it, in order to live righteously by faith.

There are examples of God withdrawing His Spirit. The first was Samson. And then king Saul. Samson didn’t realised the Spirit of the Lord had left Him after Delilah had cut his hair and told him the Philistines are upon him. Saul was tormented by an evil spirit after the Spirit of the Lord had left him. Due to disobeying God more than once, and God had rejected him as king.

David says,”Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.” Psalm 51:11

One of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is faith. And whatever is without faith is a sin, and sin is the transgression of God’s law(Ten Commandments).

Hence why, we do not have the rest of the fruits which is peace, joy and long suffering. For they are all encompassing when we have the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23, Romans14:23 and 1 John 3:4.

This proves most are without His Spirit dwelling in them, having no fruits. Due to there being an absence of faith to begin with. While others have had faith from the start, but have backslidded into disobedience.

God said, “But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.”

And “4 I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him.” Jeremiah 7:24 and Hosea 14:4.

When Samson humbled himself before God in times of difficulty and suffering, he was ready to be used by God. He asked in faith and the Spirit of the Lord empowered Him to move the pillars that the temple was standing on. To destroy the enemies of his people. Fulfilling God’s will and purpose for his life according to God’s word. So it is possible for God’s Spirit to return, but in Samson’s case he was at his lowest point close to death.  If Samson only turn to God, while he was toying with Delilah His life would have been spared. Instead of the destruction of himself along with the Philistines. The problem was is that he was half heartedly lukewarm in his faith. Pursuing his own desires of licentiousness and to be an Ally to the Philistines. Instead of being a judge over Israel and a destroyer of the Philistines.

And that is precisely our problem today. Instead of seeking God’s will and purpose for our lives or living in the fulfilment thereof, we peruse our own endeavours against Him.  Lying to ourselves that we live by faith. And make examples of our worldly accomplishments as a demonstration of it. When really it’s just to fulfil societal expectations to have favour and acceptance from others. God help us
