There’s a difference between reasoning and arguing. Reasoning presents a logic (reason), syllogism based on a foundation of what is fundamentally believed. Explaining why, and carrying the other through the thought process of that perspective. To present a view. The Bible says, to give a reason of the hope which is within us concerning our faith, not argument. 1 Peter 3:15
Argument is to persuade the person to accept your view. But due to our sinful nature, we tend to use argument as a means to convict others; and therefore, constantly go on and on and in circles about the same things. Sometimes to the point of coercion. And even as a means of coercive control. But it’s the Holy Spirit who alone leads and convicts us in all truth, not us.
The Bible warns us to do everything without complaint, slander and argument. Not to judge others. For the standard we use to measure others in our judgment will be measured back on to us. And not to have anything to do with stupid and foolish arguments over minor issues or things which are consider to be nothing.
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.” Philippians 2:14
“To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.” Titus 3:2
“But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” 2 Timothy 2:16
Hence why, it states, “Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.” Proverbs 17:28
The Bible also says, those who are godly think carefully before they speak. And those who are still worldly are living with its standards where there’s jealousy and quarrels amongst them. Proverbs 15:28 and 1 Corinthians 3:3 .
Thus, if any find themselves constantly arguing, there’s no peace. And if there’s no peace, they haven’t made peace with God through faith in Jesus Christ. Whereby they can receive justification, having the deep everlasting satisfaction of knowing God’s love which brings peace. It’s in His love alone we can be validated, not in arguments, debates or fights with one another.
