Is it faith or presumption?

Moses was told to wait on God before he struck the rock to provide water for the children of Isreal. But he struck the rock without waiting. Due to the impatience of their constant murmuring for water.

Soul was told to wait for Samuel. But chose to sacrifice a burnt offering to the Lord. Thinking, if he could appease God somehow, he would get the help he needed instead of doing what God had asked him to do accordingly.

This is the act of presumption. Presumption is not just knowing what sin is and doing it, presumption is also knowing you are supposed to wait on God before you do what He has called you to do, and not waiting.

And also, doing whatever you think is right in its place. We may suffer as we wait.

But it doesn’t mean we should act impulsively out of desperation to try and solve the problem ourselves. It’s also a form of arrogance to be excessively forward to think we of ourselves must take control. As though we know better than God, thinking God is taking too long and we need to act immediately without God’s guidance. To assert ourselves as a means to deal with the situation.

This is also how sin is committed. Doubt opposed to faith causes us to ignore God’s word, and to act on our own by any means to solve a problem. Even if it means to sin against God.
